Coleman Coliseum; Tuscaloosa, AL
Food - 4/10
At Coleman, the food options are very poor. You have Chick-Fil-A sandwiches, a slice of pizza, pretzels, nachos, and hot dogs. And thats it. I graduated from Bama so I have had pretty much every option there already but in my 2 games for this review I got the chicken sandwich, pretzel, and pizza. The Chick-Fil-A sandwich was about what you’d expect from Chick-Fil-A. The pizza though, was awful. I think it was $8 for 1 slice of pizza the size of one you’d get at Dominos or Pizza Hut. But it was worse than those two. The pretzel was good, lots of salt which I like, but it was dry.
Atmosphere - 9.5/10
I went to the 83-75 win vs Creighton and the 94-85 loss to Auburn. The Auburn game was #1 vs #2, and it was the Iron Bowl. Best basketball environment I have ever been in. Student section going crazy, chanting anything and everything. Never quiet, stood the whole game even in my seat which was basically in the rafters, crowd pops almost every possession down the stretch. I struggled to hear my friend next to me for most of the game. The Creighton game was good as well, but it was an expected win pretty much so it was hard for the crowd to get into it early, but was rocking near the end with it being close.
Stadium - 6.5/10
It’s basically an airplane hangar but with seats and a basketball court in it. Very easy to navigate, doesn’t look as old as it is. Super quick lines to get in as well, which I always appreciate. They’re supposed to be building a new arena in the next few years, really excited to see what that looks like when its finished.
City - 8.5/10
Tuscaloosa is very much a college town, one of the best in America. Has some of top ranked bars in the country every year a ranking comes out. People and students are all nice and friendly. Beautiful, spacious, and modern campus. Only negative I would have is that there aren’t many local restaurants in the area, but for a weekend visit there is definitely your fair share to choose from that won’t disappoint, Dreamland BBQ, Baumhowers, and DePalmas just to name a few.
Overall - 8.5/10
The city and atmosphere definitely carry this overall score. The food is something I could go without, would recommend getting something before or after the game honestly. Any game that has some buzz around it will be a fun game to go to, very very few duds in all the games I went to as a student. Overall, one of the best sports environments I’ve been in and definitely the best basketball experience I’ve had.
